Which 2010 Video Games Are You Most Excited About??
By Duran Rivera | The 8spot
2010 is almost over for the game industry. Which games do you see yourself getting for 2011? The next year is fast approaching and there are some promising games just on the horizon. Some that could not come soon enough. Here’s a list of some of the heavy hitters for next year.
Marvel Vs Capcom 3
This looks like it could be the biggest fighting game of the year. I don’t see how any other fighter out there can possibly top what is in store for the ultimate Street Fighter experience. In my opinion, this is a great sequel to the Street Fighter franchise. Street Fighter 4 brought back the 2D fighting genre. It was a smash hit, and this edition is suppose to have about 30 fighters from the Capcom Universe as well as the greatest collection of Marvel Characters since Marvel Alliance. All the fighters have not been revealed yet. The Marvel fighters include: Deadpool, Thor, Dr. Doom, Dormammu, Super Skrull, Spiderman, Wolverine, Captain America, IronMan, War Machine, X-23. On the Capcom side some of the fighters are: Dante, Trish, Felicia, Morrican, Mega-Man (Rumored), Captain Commando (rumored), Albert Wesker, Chris Redfield, Chun-Li, Ryu, Ken (rumored), Stryder (he better be!!), Viewtiful Joe. They will all have super moves and the animations will mimic the Street Fighter 4 graphics with 3-D cut scenes. The only fighter I see that can compete with this in 2011 is Mortal Kombat. Speaking of which….
Mortal Kombat
This is the official return of one of the most celebrated fighting games in history. Mortal Kombat goes back to its roots in this incarnation, and adds all the best special effects of the modern video game era. It can be said that this is the most anticipated fighting game of 2011, but it just depends on which side of the fence you stand. Many of the original characters return, the scenery interaction, and a new feature, which is mid-battle mortality move. It’s a lot like the Super-Moves in Street Fighter. These special Mortal Kombat moves look like mini Fatalities. There will also be tag team matches. This will be the 9th installment of the Mortal Kombat series and it looks like it might become one of the best.
Gears of War 3
Gears of War is one of the staple games for the X-Box. The flagship Xbox title is one of the most celebrated third-person Shooters of all time winning numerous awards and perfect scores through out the gaming industry. Gears of War has been recruiting players to buy the Xbox in droves and has been responsible for countless Playstation fans to convert or add X-Box to their collection just to get their hands on the past games incarnations. Gears of War 3 will feature a four-player Co-Op mode and introduce three playable female characters. All kinds of new weapons will be available in this game including the double Barrel Shotgun, Incendiary Grenade; The Gorgon Pistol will become a full automatic weapon. There will be new Mutiplayer modes called Beast Mode accompanied by the Horde Mode. If a video game’s world-reveal trailer comes out on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon then you know it’s justified on this list of most anticipated.
KillZone 3
KillZone is Ps3’s answer to Gears of War. Killzone 2 premiered on the Playstation 3 to rave reviews from through out the industry. Killzone 2 was the most anticipated game ever released on the Ps3 next to God of War. Some critics considered it the best first person shooter ever made. It received numerous awards including best Ps3 shooter from IGN. The moment it was released people were clamoring for a sequel. Not many thought they would see a sequel come out as fast as this though. The makers of Killzone 3 have promised to expand on the world, focus on the online multi-player aspects and introduce all new vehicles and weapons. It will be interesting to see who will take best shooter in 2011, Gears of War or KillZone. Best believe both game producers are thinking about the same thing, so expect these two games to push the level of shooters.
Star Wars the Old Republic
Anyone that followed the 8spot articles here knew about this game a long time ago. Star Wars: The Old Republic features one of the most promising trailers of all time if you are a Star Wars fan. Star War fan boys around the world geeked out including yours truly when the trailer to this massive RPG was released. Lucas Arts promised this to be the most immersive and massive Star Wars universe possible. This is not just an RPG by the way. This is going to be an MMORPG, which brings this into the online realm of World of Warcraft. You can exist in a world as a Jedi or Sith and immerse yourself on countless missions through far off galaxies. You could even board space ships and travel the universe. This is just the beginning. Lets hope it gets released in 2011 and there are no delays.
Dead Space 2
In 2008, if you did not play the original Dead Space, then you are a wuss and I don’t blame you because after playing this for a couple hours I became one too. This is the creepiest, spookiest game to ever be released in my humble opinion. In this game you don’t just die, you get brutally dismembered by the monsters in all kinds of ways. It was given the award of the most violent game to get passed censors in certain countries. If you haven’t played this and your looking for a piss your pants scary game, look no further. This makes Resident Evil seem like Mario Galaxy. Now the sequel is coming out in 2011, which will not catch anyone by a surprise this time. This version has online multi-player where you would work together on gory missions or you would be on the other side (the Aliens?) dismembering your friends. This might be one of the first games you can get your hands on as this game hits stores January 2011.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
It has one of the coolest CGI trailers you’ll ever see. The storyline seems rich and it’s becoming a very intriguing and more anticipated game of 2011. The original game introduced the concept of getting to an objective in multiple ways. This game will be a first person role playing game. This upcoming game will be a prequel to the original. It first premiered in the Ps2, Mac, and PC. It won best PC game of all time from three different magazines. Many are expecting this game to continue its legacy as a classic.
Rage
Publisher id Software is the same company behind the “Doom” and “Quake” franchises. They introduced the first person shooter. After 14 years they are at it again and what they have is looking really, really good. At the E3, it left convention-goers lifting their jaws from the floor. It took home “Best of Show” awards from many publications at E3. The anticipation for this game is building momentum the more and more clips are being released. Creative director Tim Willits was given the award from IGN Media for "Best Game" and "Best First Person Shooter" at the E3 convention. Additionally, the game was awarded Best First-Person Shooter, Best New IP, Best Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3 game as well as the Game of the Show of E3 2010 by GameTrailers. So, trust us here at 8spot. Keep an eye out for this game!
Twisted Metal
It’s a classic Twisted Metal game making a return to the PlayStation. In this new chapter in crazy vehicular homicidal frenzy fans get to be apart of a 16-player destruction derby. We’re talking cars, helicopters and motorcycles. Customizable cars and drivers, two special powers per vehicle. You can turn an icecream van into a running robot. Fire heat seaking or remote control missiles. So many possibilities with this game. I’m crossing my fingers on this one.
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
One of the most popular franchises in the history of video games makes a return to the Nintendo. This latest installment in the Zelda franchise will use the Wii’s MotionPlus sensor, giving characters more control of the swordplay and archery aspects. This has been the Zelda game fans have been anticipating and they will finally be able to get their hands on it. Nintendo is really taking their time on this game, and are using kid gloves on this. Which raises the chances of this being one of the truly special games to come from Nintendo. Being personally developed by the legendary Myamoto and closely monitored by the heads of Nintendo itself, this game will probably be featuring revolutionary aspects to games. Lets wait and see!
So, what do you think of the games mentioned above? Peak your fancy? Do you think there is a chance that either of these games making your top ten must have lists? What games do you think we’ve forgotten? Let us know!
